Samsung doesn’t seem to have plans to launch a successor to the Galaxy Ring, the smart ring that became the center of attention in early 2024.
According to the latest report from Korea JoongAng Daily, the South Korean company is not expected to introduce the Galaxy Ring 2 at the Galaxy Unpacked event in February 2026.
This decision is not without reason. A number of factors such as sales that do not meet expectations, technological limitations, and patent disputes with Oura are the main reasons why Samsung appears to be delaying the development of the second generation of this unique wearable device.
From Revolutionary Products to Strategy Revaluation
Galaxy Ring was first introduced as an innovative wearable focused on health tracking. With a minimalist design and advanced health monitoring features such as heart rate, stress levels and sleep quality, the Galaxy Ring is expected to complement the Galaxy Watch line.
However, after more than a year on the market, the public response to the Galaxy Ring is relatively warm. Despite attracting initial attention due to its unique concept, the device was unable to achieve the high sales figures expected.
According to industry sources quoted by the Korea JoongAng Daily, Samsung is currently re-evaluating its product strategy.
The company is unlikely to abandon the smart ring category entirely, given the potential of this wearable technology in collecting accurate biometric data.
However, the planned launch of the Galaxy Ring 2 will most likely be postponed indefinitely.
Patent Dispute with Oura
Apart from sales problems, Samsung is also facing a legal dispute with a Finnish company, Oura, which is known as a pioneer in smart ring technology.
This problem began when Oura filed a lawsuit with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) in November 2025. In the lawsuit, Oura accused Samsung and a number of other manufacturers of violating patents related to the design and health monitoring technology used in smart rings. Oura even asked for a ban on sales of the Galaxy Ring in the United States.
In response, Samsung countersued Oura in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, accusing the company of similar patent infringement. Not only that, long before the launch of the Galaxy Ring, Samsung also filed a non-infringement suit to ensure that its product did not infringe Oura’s patent.
Even though there has been no final decision, this legal conflict has clearly added pressure to Samsung. These kinds of disputes not only cost time and money, but can also affect the direction of future product development.
Smart Ring Technology Challenges
Apart from legal factors, technical limitations are also one of the main obstacles to the development of the Galaxy Ring 2. Wearable technology in the form of a ring faces major challenges in terms of battery life, sensor size and data processing capacity.
Due to its small size, developers have difficulty placing sensors with high accuracy without sacrificing wearing comfort. Samsung has indeed succeeded in bringing a number of key health features to the first generation Galaxy Ring, but many users have complained about data accuracy and limited compatibility with other devices.
The combination of technical obstacles and low user adoption means that the Galaxy Ring cannot match the success of the Galaxy Watch line, which is now one of the most popular wearables in the world.
Samsung Focuses on More Profitable Wearables
In conditions like this, it is natural that Samsung prioritizes wearable products that have proven to be commercially successful, such as the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Buds FE. Both devices are in high demand and continue to receive feature updates from Samsung Health.
Although there has been no official confirmation from Samsung regarding the cancellation of the Galaxy Ring 2 project, this report strengthens the suspicion that the company will postpone its development until market conditions are more stable.
For fans looking forward to the second generation of Samsung’s smart ring, it seems they will have to be patient a little longer. Meanwhile, users can still enjoy advanced health features through the ever-expanding Galaxy Watch line.
