PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 6 Yogyakarta continues to strengthen efforts to improve train travel safety through collaborative activities with various related parties including the KAI Group and related stakeholders. One concrete manifestation of this commitment is the safety outreach activity at level crossings which was held with KAI’s subsidiary, namely KAI Properti, which has an important role regarding safety at level crossings. Apart from that, the activities carried out at the JPL 116 Solo Balapan point also collaborated with the Surakarta Police.
This activity is carried out as direct education to provide understanding and instill awareness in road users or drivers to be more disciplined, careful and obey the applicable rules when crossing level crossings. This collaboration is also part of KAI Daop 6 and KAI Properti’s efforts to reduce the number of violations and potential disruption to train travel, especially ahead of the Christmas and New Year 2025/2026 transportation period.
JPL 116 Solo Balapan is one of the locations with a fairly high intensity of vehicle traffic and train travel, so it requires more attention regarding road users’ compliance with crossing signs and gate barriers.
Daop 6 Yogyakarta Public Relations Manager, Feni Novida Saragih emphasized the importance of collaborative activities like this as part of the KAI Group’s commitment to maintaining collective safety. “Safety is KAI’s main priority, this collaborative socialization activity with KAI Properti at JPL 116 is our concrete step to continue to educate and remind the public to always comply with all applicable rules at level crossings. Breaking through gate barriers is not only dangerous, but also a violation of the law that can harm ourselves and others. We invite all road users to work together to create safe, orderly and accident-free crossings.”
Feni also reminded that, in Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning LLAJ, Article 114 states that every road user who is going to pass through a level crossing is obliged to stop, look and listen, and only pass if conditions are safe. Meanwhile, Article 296 regulates a maximum prison sentence of three months or a maximum fine of IDR 750,000 for violators who continue to pass even though the signal sounds or the door latch has started to come down. “Let’s prioritize safety, obey the crossing gates, remember to BE FRIENDS (Stop, Look Left and Right, Be Safe, Walk),” concluded Feni.
Undisciplined behavior at level crossings not only endangers drivers, but can also have a fatal impact on train travel and the safety of many people.
Through this safety collaboration activity, KAI Daop 6 and KAI Properti hope that public awareness of safety at level crossings can continue to increase. KAI is also committed to continuing to coordinate and collaborate with communities, local governments and various stakeholders to reduce the number of incidents of train travel disruptions and provide safe and comfortable travel.
