The skies in various corners of the United States will certainly become busier with the presence of a fleet of delivery drones in the near future.
This phenomenon follows a big announcement from Wing, an innovation company under Alphabet, which has just revealed its delivery service expansion ambitions with retail giant Walmart.
This strategic partnership is set to expand to 150 additional locations spread across major metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, to Miami.
Quoted from EngadgetMonday (12/1/2026), this step is not just a trial, but part of an urban logistics revolution designed to make shopping easier without having to get stuck in traffic jams on the highway.
Public enthusiasm for this technology has exceeded initial expectations, where data from Wing shows that 25 percent of its loyal customers make orders via drone on average up to three times a week.
This high dependency rate has encouraged Wing and Walmart to set a more aggressive target, namely serving up to 40 million customers throughout the country by building a network of 270 delivery locations by 2027.
This long journey began with their successful initial delivery in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in August 2023, which was then followed by increasing coverage to 100 additional stores in Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, and Tampa in mid-2025.
This expansion continues to move quickly with momentum maintained in early 2026. After successfully launching comprehensive services in Atlanta last month, the two giants are scheduled to start drone delivery operations in Houston on January 15.
This consistency proves that air delivery is no longer just a passing trend, but a solution for daily needs that is increasingly integrated with modern lifestyles.
With the integration of advanced navigation technology from Alphabet, every package is guaranteed to reach the customer’s home page in minutes with very high accuracy.
Long before establishing a close partnership with Walmart, Wing had already pioneered the United States market by collaborating with Walgreens to deliver health and fitness products in April 2022.
The portfolio of this Alphabet subsidiary is increasingly solid thanks to strategic collaborations with various other large players such as DoorDash to Apian, a healthcare logistics company based in London.
Success in these various sectors shows the flexibility of Wing’s drone technology in handling various types of cargo, from ready-to-eat food to emergency essential medicines.
Not only does it stop at expanding regional coverage, Wing also continues to spur innovation on the hardware side by developing the latest generation of drones which are much more powerful.
This future drone is designed to be able to accelerate to speeds of 65 mph or around 105 km/h with a significantly increased carrying capacity.
While their current drones are only capable of carrying standard loads, the new model is projected to be able to carry packages weighing up to five pounds, which is double the current capacity.
This performance improvement is expected to accommodate a wider variety of shopping products, so that even heavy weekly shopping can now be delivered directly from the sky.
